Artwork Care Guide
Thank you for welcoming one of my artworks into your home.
With a little gentle care, your painting or print will stay vibrant and beautiful for many years.
Here’s how to keep it looking its best.
1. Displaying Your Artwork
• Avoid placing artwork in direct sunlight for long periods — UV light can fade colours over time.
• Keep away from radiators, fireplaces, or strong heat sources.
• Try to hang or place artwork in a room with stable temperature and humidity.
• If displaying in a kitchen or bathroom, choose a spot away from steam or splashes.
2. Framing Recommendations
For originals on paper:
• Use a mount/mat to prevent the artwork touching the glass.
• Choose UV-protective glass if possible for maximum longevity.
• Make sure the frame is sealed but not airtight — paper needs to breathe.
For prints:
• Any standard frame works beautifully, but UV-protected glass or acrylic is ideal for maintaining colour.
• Ensure the glass is clean and dust-free before framing.
For canvas pieces:
• Framing is optional — canvases can be displayed as they are.
• If framing, avoid heavy pressure against the canvas surface.
3. Handling Your Artwork
• Always handle your artwork with clean, dry hands.
• Avoid touching the painted surface or printed area directly.
• Hold pieces by the edges, mount, or frame.
4. Cleaning & Dusting
• Dust gently using a soft, dry cloth or a clean, soft brush.
• Never use cleaning sprays, water, or chemicals on the artwork or frame.
• For canvas originals, lightly dust only — do not press into the surface.
5. Storing Your Artwork
If you’re storing your artwork temporarily:
• Keep it flat (for paper pieces) in a dry, cool place.
• Use acid-free tissue paper if possible.
• Avoid basements, attics, or anywhere prone to dampness.
• Store framed artwork standing upright, never face-down on the glass.
6. What to Avoid
• Direct sunlight
• Damp rooms
• Excessive heat
• Sprays, cleaners, or solvents
• Leaning heavy items against your artwork
• Rolling originals on paper (prints can be rolled, originals should never be)
